Hoover 600MB Washing Machine agitator sporadically does not work

*only started recently. Rest of the machine seems to function fine.
*Happens even if first use for the day
*Happens even after emptying machine
*Giving it a 'twist' when on to try and start the agitator with momentum does not help.
*Unplugging machine and leaving it has seemingly allowed it to function again. Works just fine then for a few loads.
