The machine will only agitate one way.
Roughly every third agitation this happens. Then it will splash water everywhere when it finally releases and agitates back.
Is this a gear box issue?
How difficult to fix it?
Will you need to take the machine away?
The machine is twenty years old. I am trying to determine if I should buy a new machine instead of fixing this one if the problem is to great.
