Autumn checklist for your home

Summer has flown by and its already time to start thinking about having the last evening bbq's with friends and family and preparing for the cooler months ahead. Shortly the leaves will start changing colour and falling to the ground as the days grow shorter and shorter. With the right preparation you can relax in the full knowledge that your home is ready for Autumn.

Outside and in the garden

Before the wind, rain and grime of winter comes along, now is the time to consider:

  • Cleaning your gutters, so that your gutters and downpipes aren't blockedl
  • Installing gutter guards to protect your gutters from falling leaves and debris.
  • Preparing and closing (or covering up) your swimming pool for the colder months.
  • Cleaning and storing your patio furniture and barbeque. There’s nothing worse than finding a cruddy, gross barbecue next spring on that first warm weekend.
  • Sealing your deck.
  • Trimming trees and bushes so that they aren't touching your house.
  • Checking exterior lighting and replace bulbs and reset timers if necessary.
  • Touching up paint on trim, railings and decks.
  • Washing exterior windows.
  • Sealing your driveway.
  • Putting away summer sports equipment.

Inside your home

To keep you warm and comfortable in the colder months, now is the time to consider:

  • Checking that your heater works.
  • Stopping draughts from windows and doors.
  • Having your chimney cleaned.
  • Adding insulation to your home.

And voila! There you are all ready to enjoy the beauty of autumn.
