DIY: Recoat your deck in a day

Bring your deck back to life in a day in just 3 easy steps.

Products and Tools required:

  • Stiff Bristled Broom
  • Decking Applicator
  • Deck Cleaning solution
  • Mineral Turps
  • Clean Rag
  • Roller Tray
  • Stirring Paddle
  • Water Based Decking Oil

Step 1: Cleaning

  • Clean any dust, wax, polish, dirt or oil with a deck cleaning solution with a stiff scrubbing brush
  • If you have particularly stuborn greasy areas, rub these down with mineral turps and wipe offf any excess with a clean rag.

Step 2: Apply the water based decking oil

  • Prepare the decking oil making sure that it is well stirred and the required amount poured into the roller tray.
  • Take your decking applicator, dip into the roller tray and absorb some decking oil into the applicator.
  • With the decking applicator, apply smooth strokes evenly alone the grain of your wooden deck. You should aim to coat about two to three boards at a time.
  • Leave to dry for 3 hours.
  • Using the same technique, you then apply a second coat of decking oil and leave it to dry.

Step 3: Sit back and relax!

  • After around 8 hours your beautifully coated deck will be ready to enjoy.

  • You can re coat ACQ treated pine, you will have a refreshed and revitalised look if the pine is dry or faded. Just be sure you check the compatibility on the product you select. The preparation described in the article is still appropriate.
