Footy Tipping: NRL Round 2 Wrap

Another action-packed round, another jackpot winner! Congratulations to Karl Imberger who was the only tipster to pick all eight winners for Round 2. Karl will receive $20 for his efforts and the jackpot resets to $20 for next week. Tipping improved on the whole this week, with the average up to 4.8 from 4.3 last round as tipsters started to get a feel for season 2010.

Premiership fancies the Dragons notched up their second consecutive win to kick off the season, brushing aside the winless Bulldogs as they eased to a comfortable 26-6 victory in Wollongong.

The contest was much tighter over at ANZ Stadium where the Titans knocked off South Sydney 19-18 with a golden point in the second minute of extra time from captain Scott Prince, who had moments earlier coolly slotted a penalty goal to tie the scores up. The defeat sends the Rabbitohs to the bottom of the ladder.

The North Queensland Cowboys once again came back from well behind on the back of some Jonathan Thurston-inspired brilliance, but this time they were able to overhaul Penrith and notch their first win of the season 28-20 having trailed 0-14 earlier in the piece with Cyclone Ului nearing the coast.

The Storm's scrappy but winning start to the season continued as they also came back from a 0-14 deficit to defeat the Knights 20-14. The reigning premiers took advantage of a rattled Knights defence as Dane Nielsen scored the match-winner in the 70th minute.

The Warriors had little trouble against Cronulla as they ran out 30-16 victors on the back of a Manu Vatuvei hat-trick. The Sharks have now lost their past twelve matches on the trot, while Vatuvei has scored ten tries in his last six outings, including two last week.

Jarryd Hayne was the star for Parramatta, who appeared doomed when trailing Manly 0-20 moments after half time. After Fuifui Moimoi got the Eels on the board, Hayne instigated a 105-metre try as he beat off five defenders, and played an instrumental part in the match-winner as the Eels got up 24-20. It was more devastation for Manly, who had blown a 20-4 lead late in the game against Wests the week before.

The Wests could not produce such a comeback this week, however, as the Roosters romped to a 44-32 victory as their tremendous start to the season continued and had many tipsters wondering exactly where they are at. Halfback Mitchell Pearce, in combination with new signing Todd Carney and Braith Anasta, was the standout. Lote Tuqiri's dashing 70m try in the 13th minute was not enough to inspire the Tigers across the line.

It was the Raiders' defeat of the Broncos on Monday that tripped most tipsters up, however; having burst to a 18-0 lead at half-time, the Raiders were able to hold off a late Broncos surge and complete a 22-14 victory in front of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
