How do you promote a great country event?

Bruce Ahchow, the co-founder of Service Central, has taken on the role to help promote the Seppelt Salinger Great Western Races in the Grampians town of Great Western on the 21st of January 2012. He's good at promoting tradespeople, but he has no experience in promoting country events. Can you give him some tips?

Bruce Ahchow is great at promoting tradespeople, with over 275,000 job requests now posted on Service Central there can be no doubt. However, now Bruce has taken on board promoting the Great Western Races on January 21 in the tiny Grampians township of Great Western. It seems that promoting a country event is quite different to finding tradespeople for homeowners. Can anyone out there give him a few tips?

So far, Bruce has:

He has also helped organise buses from Melbourne and Ballarat to the races, as well as promoting this fantastic country race day on Ballarat and Horsham radio.

Now Bruce is looking for ways to promote the Great Western Races to people throughout Melbourne. Can you help? Do you have any tips?

Some of the questions that Bruce is hoping you might be able to help out with include:

  • Whats the best place to promote events? Websites? Forums?
  • What newspapers do people read? What sections of the newspaper is it best to promote an event in?
  • Are there groups that people are part of that go to events together? Is there a Toastmasters for people who like going away to events on the weekend?
  • Has anyone used social media successfully to promote their event?
  • Can anyone suggest any newsletters that we should try to promote this event in?

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Regards,

Danial
