How long does it take to paint a home?

We're often asked how will it take to paint a home. Its a difficult question to answer as it depends on whether you need the inside of the house painted or the outside of the house painted, whether its a new house or a repaint of a wall that's already painted, and how much preparation is required to get the house ready for painting.

For some simple painting guidelines, in one hour you are likely to cover about 7 square metres of an ordinary surface, or approximately 5 square metres of bare wood or plaster. So for example, if you're painting an average sized room of 4m x 5m it should take you around five to six hours to apply one coat of paint. You then need to wait for the first coat to dry before applying a second coat of paint, which for normal water-based acrylic paints normally takes two hours.

Normally a standard alone room if your looking at a bedroom size of 2.4m by 5m = 100m2. Wheather if you are coating new and old exsiting surface the time frame between coats are 1 to 2 hours depending on drying time the next coat can then be applyed.Undercoat acrlylic base coat at 100m2 normally takes about 1 and half to 2 hours to apply and for the enamel base 1 to 2 hours which is slightly abit longer.Once the sealer is dry, 1st and 2nd coats can then be applied starting with your ceiling 1st and completing it ,then coating the walls.Remember these coating times are based on ceiling and walls of a 100m2.
