Ideas for your own Incredibile Deck

Check out these incredible decking ideas to inspire your own deck project:

Jamie Durie is not just a pretty face. In this project, he has cleverly curved timber decking to create comfortable seating and to provide space for planting.

Decking as seating. As Kath and Kim would say, it's always best to "team with the theme". In this case, we couldn't agree more. Using the same decking material to create built-in seating in a deck area is a great way to draw people out into the space and provide some permanence and solidity to the whole design. This curved seating looks much more comfortable than your regular bench seat, too.

Decking doesn't need to be just a floor surface. In fact, it looks amazing if you also use it to provide shade to your outdoor area. We also love the outdoor sink - not sure why it's filled with plants instead of ice, beer and wine, though.

At first this doesn't look like a picture of decking at all. And that's the beauty of this project. The floor and decking are the same timber, with the same stain - and they're at the same level. The decking and the indoor floor surface merge into each other seamlessly. Perfect for summer entertaining where the party can spill into (or out of) the house. No red wine allowed on the chair though.

This roof deck in New York (yes, that's the Empire State Building in the background) uses decking creatively to create a number of different spaces, like sun lounges of varying shapes, awnings and...

Pop-through planter beds!

This project from Chilean architects,Felipe Assadi + Francisca Pulido Architects  proves that decks can double as sun lounges (and don't require a level to construct). What a great place to lie and enjoy the sunshine? Our advice: never carry your mobile phone while walking on this deck - small trip could result in an expensive replacement (let's hope it's out of contract).

Oh yeah. The rest of the house is equally awesome. In fact, the entire house is a deck!

This mind-bending deck by Faulders Studio, uses marine-grade painted wood cut to create a gravitational black hole in the middle of the courtyard. Proof that decks don't need to be boring. I just hope guests enjoying a BBQ in this courtyard can hold their burgers down.

And how the magic was made. That looks like a lot of work!

Okay, you got us. This isn't even a deck at all! It's more like organic paving. But if you're after the warmth of timber but you don't want a traditional deck, this might be right up your alley. It would certainly add some whimsy (and possibly attract fairies) to your entertainment space. Best to turn off the bug zapper (just in case).
