Net Vs Gross feed-in tariffs: What’s the difference?

Each state has a different feed-in tariff and different ways of measuring and paying. Some states pay based on 'net' and some on 'gross'. So what's the difference?

  • Net – also known as export metering pays the system owner for any extra energy produced which can be fed back into the National Grid. So with a Net tariff you’ll get paid for all the energy that you don’t use which can be used by the National Grid.
  • Gross – pays for every KW produced in a system that is connected to the grid. So with a Gross tariff you’ll get paid for every KW you produce regardless of how much you use personally and how much you feed back into the grid.

A very important difference don’t you think?
