Pest control: How do you know if you've got termites?

Often if you're seeing the signs of a termite infestation you've already got a significant problem.

  • The wood has surface differences. Termites excavate and leave a very thin layer of wood on the outside - so if the wood is soft or even slightly convex or concave this can indicate termites.
  • Termite trails to and from a nest.
  • The wood has different acoustics - when you tap the wood it sounds different to the rest of the wood when tapped.

The best way to identify termite infestation is to get an expert to come and have a look. Be proactive and have a termite inspection every 12 months (or more frequently if you're in a high risk area).
