Should Service Central charge job-posters?

Currently Service Central's consumers - the job-posters - get a free service whenever they want to post a job. Do you think we should start offering an alternative, 'premium' service for job posters?

Service Central offers a great service - we make it possible for people to quickly and easily find certified businesses for their jobs, for free.

At the moment, consumers simply post their job and we'll instantly send an SMS or email to registered, certified businesses. No fuss, no charge. But there's no guarantee either - we may or may not be able to find an appropriate business for that job.

So the question comes up - if Service Central started charging for a 'premium' job listing, what would be included? If you paid $20 to post your job on Service Central, what would you want for your money?

Would you want:

  • A guarantee that we'll fill the job and find a business for you?
  • A priority spot at the top of the jobs board to help you stand out?
  • The option to have more than 3 businesses respond?
  • The ability to have more than just Service Central businesses respond?
  • Your job posted on sites other than Service Central?
  • Access to a more diverse and expansive job management system?
  • Something else? (Tell us is the comments below)

Or would you never be interested in paying to post your job on Service Central?

Would you pay to post a premium job?

Alternatively, if you're a business registered with Service Central, how do you think the introduction of a paid 'premium' job listing would affect your business, the quality of the jobs posted and how you interact with us? For instance, do you think there'd be more quality jobs? Would you only be interested in picking up 'premium' jobs?

Here at Service Central we're always striving towards improving our system and the service we provide both to businesses and job-posting consumers.

Do you think we should introduce a premium job listing? And if we did, how much do you think it should cost? Tell us in the comments below.

  • the market is open for the comsumer to get quotes, yellow pages, google, and keep counting.
it is even so inconvient for us to charge clients for quotes even that we spend our time and travel
how do you get the cheapgate customers off the system??
it think they should have a profile, linked to their address or phone and service central should supply the trade with their preformance and number of jobs they used through the system.

  • Are you guys serious? There are currently a long list of free service providers. You would loose some of your precious customers that you already have. Us tradies don't charge for quotes so neither should you guys!!

  • I can't imagine too many people being willing to pay for this service, let alone for $20! If you were thinking of introducing it, $2.00 might be a better price to start at . . .

  • I've never actually had any replies to anything I've posted so wouldn't be pleased if I had to pay.

  • Client pays for premium quote service, provider pays to pick up lead! and who's the big winner with that deal???

  • Actually, I think all parties could be winners .... Service Central could provide the forum where a quality customer (one who is prepared to pay to be put in touch with a good business) is able to engage with a quality provider ... your comments seem to suggest that Service Central is not entitled to make some money by facilitating the engagement, including finding the customer and the provider?

  • Hi Bruce, as a lifetime member of Service Central I like others with Service Central are in deed already a "Quality Provider". The "Quality Customers" should be able to (and right) to access the "Quality Providers" at no charge to themselves, the provider of course pays the lead fee as currently exists. To charge the customers a premium to list their jobs could be a disincentive for them (as Margaret states above), which would affect the providers opportunity to win work.
