Read on for info about Western Australia' rebates for investment in Solar hot water systems.

How much of a rebate will you get?

If you install a gas boosted solar water heater then you should be entitled to a rebate of $500. If you live in an area without mains gas and install an LPG boosted solar water heater than you should be entitled to $700.

Are you eligible for a rebate?

Rebates are offered to householders installing gas boosted solar water heaters. If you are replacing an electric hot water system or you are building a new house then you may be eligible for RECs as well.

  • Rebates are available for new water heating systems, with two or more solar panels, which are gas boosted and that are accredited to Australian Standard AS2712.
  • Rebates only apply to residential properties.
  • Rebates only cover water heating systems which are bought from suppliers who are recognised by the Office of Energy (OOE).
  • New build homes can only claim rebates if they have formal pre-approval in place.
  • Solar water heaters must be purchased and installed within the 12 months prior to a rebate application being received by the OOE.
  • The scheme in WA has been extended through to 30th June 2013, so you will need to buy and install your new system before then to be eligible for a rebate.

Speak to your local specialist to check that you are eligible with the solar hot water system you wish to install.

How do I claim my rebate?

In WA the rebate is claimed retrospectively, after the system is installed. There is a form which needs to be completed in conjuncture with your installer. The form can be downloaded from the WA government website here. You should then give the completed form to your supplier who will make the application on your behalf.

The rebate will be paid to your energy supplier and then either credited to your account or paid to you in full once the OOE has approved your application.
