State solar hot water rebates: Queensland

Read on for info about Queensland's rebates for investment in Solar hot water systems.

How much of a rebate will you get?

For replacing an electric storage hot water system with heat pump or a solar hot water system, you could be eligible for rebates of $1000 for pensioners and low-income earners or $600 rebate.

Are you eligible?

The rebate is for systems purchased on or after 13 April 2010. All applicants must:

  • replace an existing electric system at a principal place of residence in Queensland
  • have chosen a system eligible for at least 20 REC's
  • have had the installation done by a licensed installer
  • be the owner or tenant where the system was installed, at the time the system was installed.
  • have installed a system that meets the minimum warranty periods.
  • lodge a rebate application within 6 months of installation.

Then, for the additional rebate for pensioners and low-income earners, applicants must have one of the following:

  • Centrelink Pension Concession card
  • Centrelink Low-Income Health Care card
  • Commonwealth Seniors Health card
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Pension Concession card (Blue only. Orange, white and gold cardholders aren't eligible).

How do you claim your rebate?

First you should check out the application and guidelines PDF, as well as complete the eligibility test to ensure you don't expect a rebate and then have your application declined. If you're eligible, you should source a local solar professional and then complete the application form after the installation is done (with the help of your electrician and plumber).

Payment of the rebate will be made via EFT into your nominated account.
