Read on for info about Victoria's rebates for investment in Solar hot water systems.
The amount of rebate attached to a system varies on its performance capacity, the size of the unit and the cost of the installation process. So a system that is more effective and uses more solar power will attract a higher rebate.
More details are available on the Victorian Government homepage.
Firstly you must live in Victoria to qualify for this rebate. You can only apply for this rebate for your main place of residence. If you have a property that you let out, you can apply for the rebate for that as well so long as the bills are in the name of the tenant. The new system must be installed in an existing home (new build properties are not eligible) where the current water heating system has been operating for at least 12 months for a standard system or five years for a solar hot water system. You can only claim one rebate per property. This rebate is only available to people who own and live in their properties or who are landlords.
In Victoria the Regional Solar Hot Water Rebate takes the form of a discount at the point of sale. Home owners who are eligible can obtain the discount on the sale and installation of solar hot water systems through participating manufactures and suppliers. A supplier who is participating in the scheme can check your eligibility for you. They will then be able to pre-approve you for the rebate by contacting Sustainability Victoria and will then give you a quote for the installation of the system.
Remember that the pre-approval only lasts 30 days, so you must have the installation completed during that time. Then once the system has been installed the supplier they have another 30 days to send the completed application to Sustainability Victoria to be processed.
If for any reason the installation can not take place within the 30 days mentioned above a new application for pre-approval will have to be made. The system can't be installed unless there is a valid pre-approval in place.
Remember to considerREC'sandfederal rebatesinto your decision as well.
Remember also that rebates can change - this information is correct as at date of publishing but for absolute certainty you should check with your installer.
