Tech Tip: Car to Car Communication

South Australia is getting techy over the next few months as they test out some brand new car-to-car communication technology. Like something from the future, the technology will enable cars to exchange information about where they are, where they’re going and what speed they're doing it at.

The hope is that it will help prevent road accidents, as the technology will sound an alarm when it thinks a collision is imminent.

The device combines GPS and Wireless technology and was developed by Cohda Wireless. It will give vehicles a 360-degree range of awareness and if the trials are successful then you could see it being fitted in all cars as early as 2015!

Not only is the technology capable of preventing accidents, it can also be used for toll collection and reducing traffic congestion. Who wouldn't want less traffic jams?!

South Australia will have 100 cars outfitted with the new technology and be testing it over three months. Read more about it on ZDNet.
