Tradie fined $24,000 for non-compliant building works

The Victorian Building Commission has just fined a tradesman from Reservoir $24,000. The tradesman had verbally agreed to conduct over $200,000 of work at a home in Reservoir, however he didn't have a licence, didn't have a permit, and didn't have insurance. Another great example as to why Service Central is so strict on our tradespeople's compliance standards.

From the day we started, way back in 2005, Service Central has been adamant that we only wanted the best tradespeople on our books. We set high standards, and wouldn't let anyone onto our books unless they met our Quality Assurance Standards

Service Central's standards set out that in order to access any of the thousands of new jobs we generate for tradespeople each month you must have:

  • A registered business with a valid ABN or ACN.
  • Qualifications where the trade is licenced or are registered with a State Authority where required.
  • Appropriate Public Liability Insurance.
  • Agreed to the Service Central Terms and Conditions.
  • Agreed to abide by the Service Central Code of Conduct.
We know this approach is strict. However, we do not want our high quality tradespeople to have their reputations tarnished by allowing cowboys like the one that the Victorian Building Commission have recently fined, to enter our network.

If you run a high quality business, and agree with us that we need to keep the cowboys out of the industry, please register your business with us here: /for-business/

That said, we do like to help trades businesses grow and have partnered up with a company to help tradespeople become registered with the Building Commission.
