Replace brick retaining wall

An existing rendered brick retaining wall in the front yard is damage (probably from tree roots) and we have been told that at least large sections need to be replaced. It is about 1200 high on the corner to 0 near the driveway. We would also like a low fence on top (maybe 1200 in total made up of rendered pillars with horizontal Aluminium (or steel?) slats in between.
The existing retaining wall also continues down the side of the house, but that section does not need replacing and already has a wooden fence on top
We would like the final look to be rendered - whether can be achieved with blocks or bricks etc?
Not sure on difference between categories 'Landscaping: retaining walls' and 'Bricklaying: retaining walls'. In terms of schedule, I would like as soon as possible, but can be flexible if necessary
