I have just had an old gas heater removed from a fireplace and the gas and electrical supply isolated professionally.
The base of the old fireplace has been built up with concrete which needs to be removed and a hole 20 x 10 cm needs to be filled and the base restored with firebrick so that it can be used as an open fireplace.
