I’m located in Greensborough and have a large deck which wraps around my house on 2 sides. It is at the 2nd storey level at the rear. The deck is in quite a state of disrepair. We believe that the deck was originally just approx. 1m wide and was then extended at some stage. I’ve been in this house for 5 years but don’t know the entire history. Just prior to me moving in, a handyman had completed some minor works to patch up some of the worst parts of the deck. I suspect many of the materials used have been sub-standard and this is a major part of the problem.
A lot of the wood on the deck is quite degraded, and some parts are rotten through (Not so much the structurally supporting parts). However, in the last couple of weeks, I’ve noticed that one of the 3 main support posts (this one is located on a corner), which hold up the main span has basically started to crumble. As a result, the deck feels extremely unsafe at the moment and I am not allowing anyone to walk anywhere near that particularly damaged part of the deck.
I have attempted several times in the past 5 years to get quotes on either some significant repairs or a rebuild of the existing deck, with little success. Tradesman have turned up to do an inspection and never gotten back to me, or not even turned up at all. As the deck is now completely unsafe, I’m really hoping that someone can assist asap.
