My house has an existing pergola of wood construction on the driveway attached to the house that is covered by shade cloth. I want to place poly-carbonate roofing on it, with guttering and convert the pergola to a carport. I need a structural engineer to sign-off that the pergola is structurally sound to do this, for the purpose of applying for a council permit.
I also have the issue that parts of the wood in the pergola have rotted and need to be replaced, but don't want to replace them unless the existing size specifications of the wood in the structure is acceptable (in order to be structurally sound for the purpose of applying for the permit). I need advice on this aspect first and then a sign-off for the council if the existing wood sizes are structurally acceptable.
