50's powerboard fuse holder burnout

The electrical board had a failure last night where the fuse hiolder for one of the two circuis in the house buned out. the fuse is fine, but the holder is blackened, especially at the top contact point. in the morning light i had a look, replaced the fuse wire, and tried to clean the contact point a bit. still no good. this is urgent in that this circuit runs all the kitchen appliances.
