Excavation under house with limited access for single story brick home

I have a basement which i would like to know if its possible to excavate under an existing brick house to make extra space.
there is limited access for earth moving equipment and part of the job is to put in retaining walls, foundations and ensure structural integrity so the house doesn't collapse in itself!!
the house is semi detached and the area i want excavated is about 8 meters long, 4 meters wide. the depth of excavation would be no more than 1 meter. at the moment, part of the area i want excavated is concreted while the other half is loose dirt.
