i have three small empty garden beds that i need made into level and firm bases for three sealed raised garden beds i want to sit on top of them. there seems to be about 40cm of soil above what looks like a sand/clay base, so i wonder if it'd be better to dig the soil out and lay a compacted layer of crushed rock or something on top. i also need a edging replaced on the end of one of the bed (about 1m long by 40cm high), which acts like a small retaining wall (the timber has come loose, but it probably need to be replaced with brick or concrete blocks so it will last better).
