Our kitchen is approximately 15 years old, renovated by the previous owners. it is still in very good condition, however our ceramic blanco bench cooktop recently fused a switch. the cooktop... Our kitchen is approximately 15 years old, renovated by the previous owners. it is still in very good condition, however our ceramic blanco bench cooktop recently fused a switch. the cooktop was subject to an insurance assessment and the assessor reported that the height from the stovetop to the rangehood was not to standard (65 cm, should be 75cm, i think). also, there is a drawer built in under the stovetop that is not to standard as there is no shield and the drawer is too close. the blanco cooktop is not repairable (replacement switches no longer available) and must be replaced. we need to live with a rounded cutout that measures 580mm x 490mm and is only 34mm deep before it bangs into a cupboard upright. i have sourced one cooktop (not ceramic) that would fit in the exisiting cutout and is only 33mm high. however we are concerned, now the insurer has the assessors report, that if there was an event caused by a new cooktop the insurance company would not pay knowing that other aspects (rangehood, drawer) did not adhere to standards. we are coming to the conclusion that 1. the rangehood, which is built into a cabinet, needs raising and 2. the cabinetry design under the cooktop needs altering to accomodate a new cooktop and to adhere to standards. we are also considering switching to a gas cooktop, but would need to consider price and do-ability. we are interested in giving the job to a company with a good reputation and who has the resources to project manage electricians, plasters and tilers. we believe that the shells of the cabinetry need to be rebuilt, but would like to maintain the doors (may need to be cut down) so that they still coordinate with the rest of the kitchen.
