Hence they retain quite a lot of standing water (today, after little rain lately and some warmer temperatures & sunshine the last few days there is still over 20mm sitting) which doesn't run to the down pipe. This in turn has left quite a bit of sludge (mostly from bird crap). Some basic investigation with a spirit level shows the sections are in fact level and if I understand correctly they should slope slightly towards the down pipe, so I guess the sections need to be raised slightly at one end? Not sure if I need a roofer, plumber or just a general handyman type for this particular bit or work.
