Hi, Looking at having an existing pergola removed and replaced with a new outdoor entertaining area. The new area would be approx. 9m x 6m (give or take). Wanting to create the 'illusion' of an 'outdoor room', with space to BBQ/dine, with a step down section to make a feature around an exisiting outdoor fireplace, with storage bench seating/planter boxes in this area. The existing property is of federation era, and as such we are considering doing some of the pergola in matching bricks to that of the house, along with a timber framework. The plan with the design is to ideally have everything designed with the thought in mind that in a few years to come we will potentially close the room in to have extra living space, but in the mean time this will simply be a pergola area, and we will possibly invest in patio blinds to weather proof as needed. Bearing in mind we may never close this area in and keep it purely as a pergola. The area needs to be family/pet and child friendly. My current biggest concern with the layout is that this area will look like an 'add-on', which I wish to avoid. Roof material we had considered to be Danpalon, but this is possibly too expensive and we are open to suggestion on this. Other 'rooves' in the rear yard to work with are: terracotta house roof, with a skillion extension. terracotta home office roof (seperate building), plus a (yet to be constructed) double garage/carport with roof material yet to be determined. As an alternative option, possibly a deck instead of a slab base, but not sure of the practicalness of this being it will be near to an open fireplace. Looking for advice and design ideas as well as someone actually interested in the job, and prepared to give a realistic/genuine quote. Thanks Tracey
