Hot water release valve broken??

Good morning,
After my shower last night I heard running water and on investigation found hot water pouring out of the overflow pipe. I tried to use the release valve but that made things worse.
I have no hot water and am at work so would appreciate someone attending today. It will take me 30 minutes to get home from work so advanced notice would be appreciated.
I have turned the hot water tap off.
