The Plumbing Professor - DNC
I am renovating my house prior to selling it, and selected The Plumbing Professor as the cheapest in a three quote process. They came in $100-150 less than the two other quote. I am very unhappy with most of the service provided by The Plumbing Professor. Some of the work was done without incident, but they ran into grief with old stuck tap spindles in my bath and shower over bath. Apparently the plumber was supposed to have me sign a disclaimer contract saying that if damage resulted to my pipes as a result of trying to shift stuck spindles, it was my liability not theirs. No mention was made of this when the plumber arrived, nor did he call me (I had to go to work while he was there) to identify problems and ask how I wanted him to proceed. He just kept trying to twist off the stuck spindles, resulting in a tear to a pipe that leaked within a wall for a week before I realised that's what the hissing noise from the open spindle meant. The company sent him back free of charge to repair the leak, which resulted in deconstructing a panel wall in the room behind the bathroom to access the pipes, and decommissioning the shower over bath (which I don't use as there is a separate shower recess). I now need to repaint that room after the panel was replaced due to marks on the wall around it. I then had to buy tap covers which don't match the rest of the taps in the bathroom. He installed these, but when I turned the cold tap on that evening, it could not be turned off and ran - not dripped. He came back at 6am the next day - also free of charge, and slowed it to a drip, but at this point the manager advised I would have to sign the disclaimer form if more work was done. I do understand that old spindles can be hard to remove, but I declined, and found another plumber. He resolved the problem in about 15 minutes, removing the stuck (and now warped) spindle and installing one of the others that the first plumber had removed from another tap. Worse than all of this, the Plumber Professor plumber did just about everything wrong in installing my laundry tub. He connected the flex for the hot water to the cold side of the mixer tap and vice versa. When he came back to fix that and install the tap covers in the bathroom, he failed to tighen any of the laundry tub connections before turning the mains water back on, resulting in a series of leaks until I figured out myself which connections were leaking and tightened them with a spanner. Other connections in the tub's drain pipework also needed to be sealed with silicone to prevent further leaks. Better yet, when the had been installed into the wall to connect the washing machine taps hoses to, the cold tap was put on the hot pipe and vice versa. So when I installed my washing machine hoses and ran a test load, I realised that I had hot water coming through my cold hose. We solved this by switching the hoses on the taps, but I will need to advise the buyer of my house of the problem. Two different Plumbing Professor plumbers attended my house, and both did some work well, but also made indefensible errors. I would not recommend this organisation for any kind of plumbing work.
