Smeg dishwasher not draining. Water leaking when switched on.

Have checked hose conections, switched dishwasher off for the moment. Also checked filter. The problem now is that when using sink to wash dishes the water is leaking from the excess drain pipe.The smeg dishwasher is approx 4 years old.
