3 sq mtrs kitchen wall install 20x20cm no exist tiles on wall

I have an area of approx 3 square metres which needs wall tiles in my kitchen. the tiles i have purchased are 20cmx20cm and i'd like them laid in a diamond pattern, not just square. i will also need to know if this means i need to purchase more tiles as i only bought enough to cover square laying.
the original tiles have been removed from behind the stove, sink and along the wall above the benchtops. the area needing tiling is a splashback which extends to the end of the bench.
