Tiling (Renovation)

Initial engagement was good but unfortunately that's where it ended. I got told all the things I should look out for from other tilers which ended up being a hypocritical discussion. They didn't tile all the way to the ceiling in the ensuite. When I brought it up, I was made to feel like I was going crazy and didn't communicate it (despite remembering having the discussion about the change). It was too late to fix so we agreed to grout the top to fix it. They left the job without grouting the top! The other bathroom was going to be finished with standard 55mm cornice (again, discussed). They left a gap that was greater than 55mm! So now I need to use 75mm cornice in a small bathroom to cover their stuff up. A fall in the shower base (they built) was too steep. Approx. 25mm over a 900mm base (you can feel yourself balancing when standing). I got told it had to be like that for upstairs (the downstairs one hade 10mm over 1100mm). Go figure. When they did the feature wall in the bathroom (large tiles), they put the full tile at the bottom (which was going to be hidden by the bath tub anyway) and the cut tiles at the top where it's in clear view! (again, I specifically mentioned not to do this during the initial quote stage). The silicone work was a little sloppy too and they said the job would definitely not take longer than 4-5 days. It took more than 2 weeks as they completed things in dribs and drabs. To give them some credit, Moein and crew's intention is to be thorough, the actual tiling work was good and they did start involving me in decisions as the job progressed. However, my advice to anyone hiring these guys is to put everything in writing (i.e. changes) and remind them during the job, then cross your fingers. I personally wouldn't hire them again as I would expect a tradie to execute standards/best practices in their trade and remember discussions/customer's wants. FYI, they weren't dirt cheap and Moein did sell themselves up during the quoting stage (that's standard tradie practice I guess). So I don't believe I was trying to buy a Mercedes on a Hyundai budget here.

Was responsive with quoting and knew his stuff with all the questions I asked. I had confidence in his workmanship but just not competitive enough for me.
