I discovered advanced rot in the frame of the west-facing full-length windows on the nw corner of our house. the frame had been repaired by a painter about five years ago but the rot had evidently continued below the surface. i've made temporary repairs to secure the window and prevent the entry of rain, but the whole frame needs to be removed and replaced either with an identical timber frame or with a full-length non-opening window - again, in a timber frame. we're happy to do our own painting but the carpentry aspect is beyond us. job needs to be started and finished in a single day (for security reasons).
