I put the washer into a spin cycle, it rotates once, the motor cuts out and it sits there for 10 minutes. Then the 3E error appears. The same happens during a normal wash cycle when it gets to the... The same happens during a normal wash cycle when it gets to the spin part. Previous to this, the unit was squeaking as it spun and vibrating quite a lot. The same problem happens above when it's empty too. I have tested it without clothes in, cleaned the filter and turned it off at the power for 1hr, but still the same problem occurs.

Having read your "Commomn Washing Machine Problems" I assume the bearings needs replacing. Sounds like a jet taking off on spin. Drum can be moved up (more than down) a little. It is a Hoover...
